Intestine Transplant Program

Intestinal Diseases

Not all patients who have intestinal failure need an intestine transplant. Other treatments for intestinal failure include intravenous nutrition. This type of nutritional support is called total parenteral nutrition (TPN). Another nonsurgical treatment is restoring intestine function through intestinal rehabilitation.

Intestine transplant may be the treatment of choice for intestinal failure when intestine function cannot be restored or when nutritional support no longer works or has led to liver failure or other complications.
