Our hospitalists are board-certified pediatricians who specialize in the general medical care of infants, children and adolescents during their hospital stay at Seattle Children's. Hospitalists serve as the attending doctors, working closely with medical, surgical and emergency medicine specialists. Your child may be seen by a hospitalist when your primary care physician does not care for patients at Children's. In addition, hospitalists are present in the hospital 24 hours per day to provide rapid access to a board-certified pediatrician for urgent issues when specialists are not in the hospital, such as at night. They make sure patients receive well-coordinated, compassionate care. Our hospitalists care for thousands of children each year, treating both common and complex health conditions.
The program also provides teaching, research and leadership related to hospital care. Many hospitalists are involved in committees working to improve patient safety and communication between physicians and staff, and promote cost-effective patient care. The program has grown from six to over 60 hospitalists at Seattle Children's main campus as well as our regional locations.
In addition to caring for patients at Seattle Children's, our hospitalists staff pediatric inpatient units at hospitals around Washington, including Providence St. Peter, Skagit Valley Hospital and Evergreen Hospital and Medical Center. Learn more.
