Children's Hospital Campaign Celebration
Featuring the Beach Boys
Tuesday, September 16, 2008
Safeco Field, Seattle
More than 14,000 Children's supporters attended a celebration at Safeco Field September 16 to mark the close of the seven-year Campaign for Children's, the largest fundraising campaign in the hospital's 101-year history. The event featured the Beach Boys, who performed the first public concert ever held at Safeco Field.
The hospital's new logo and name — Seattle Children's — were unveiled during the evening. Three video presentations highlighted, respectively, the themes of Hope, Care and Cure.
A 30-minute program showcased the campaign's success. Speakers acknowledged supporters for exceeding the campaign's $300 million goal by more than $50 million and thanked the more than 1,200 individuals who included Children's in their estate plans. Dr. Thomas Hansen, Seattle Children's CEO, recognized the 8,000 hospital employees and family members in attendance for supporting the campaign and spoke about the progress the hospital has made in its first 100 years.
Hansen also discussed how the campaign will impact ongoing research, facilities expansion and the hospital's tradition of providing needed medical treatment to all children in our region, regardless of families' ability to pay.
Children's patient Dylan Halverson then introduced the Beach Boys to a huge ovation. The group played for approximately 90 minutes before the evening closed with spectacular screen fireworks.
