The RSDC is a staff-led volunteer committee charged with improving the workplace for research staff.
The RSDC is charged with:
- Participating in the development of a staff recruitment and retention strategy
- Building a sense of community and collegial support and recognition
- Supporting a culture of research staff as partners in the leadership of the research enterprise
- Stimulating discussion and initiative on matters of interest and concern to research staff
- Supporting effective communication within the research enterprise
- Providing opportunities for professional development and growth
- Helping to increase staff interaction and community presence
- Hosting events for networking and enjoyment
- Supporting a healthy and productive work and learning environment
Further, the RSDC supports skills training and development for staff through:
- Provision of internal courses and training events
- Partial fee support for training leading to recognized and appropriate qualifications, where recommended and supported by the appropriate faculty member or administrative manager
- Full fee support for travel to professional meetings to present a poster or workshop as the principal author
- Access to information and resources held locally or through national networks
