Fundamentals of Project Management
This series of courses has been designed to educate and train management and staff in the discipline of project management. The series is divided into three courses, each of which covers specific phases, processes and techniques used to complete a project within time, budget and scope constraints.
Course 1: Introduction to Project Management
In this first course, students learn about the history of project management, various project selection techniques, how to develop a project charter, risk identification, response and control. Upon completion, students should be able to select the most advantageous project; develop the project charter and properly initiate the project; and manage project risk. Read the syllabus.
Course 2: Project Planning
This second course in the series illustrates scheduling and budgeting techniques to help plan a project. Students will be introduced to the work breakdown structure (WBS), precedence diagramming method (PDM) and critical path method (CPM). Upon completion, students will be able to decompose the project scope into deliverables and activities, estimate requirements and schedule and budget them. Introduction to Project Management (Course 1) is a prerequisite for this course. Read the syllabus.
Course 3: Project Control and Closure
This final course in the series will cover the techniques used to monitor and control a project. Students will be exposed to control and review methods including earned value measurements (EVM), forecasting and schedule control. The course will also cover project change management and variance analysis. Finally, this course will expose students to project closing processes. Introduction to Project Management (Course 1) and Project Planning (Course 2) are prerequisites for this course. Read the syllabus.
Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)
This course is intended to prepare the student for the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam. The exam is based on the PMBOK, and PMP certification is administered by the Project Management Institute (PMI). The three Fundamentals of Project Management courses are prerequisites for the PMBOK course.
