Rebecca Fisher, MLIS

In 1992, Rebecca Fisher, a wife and mother of three young children, was diagnosed with BRCA1-related Stage III-B breast cancer. A medical librarian by training, Ms. Fisher has been involved in medical genetics policy for several years, serving as a member of the Department of Health and Human Services’ AHIC Personalized Health Care Working Group, the NIH’s GAIN Director’s Advisory Board and the Johns Hopkins Genetics and Public Policy Center’s Citizens Advisory Panel.

She presented testimony to the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Genetics, Health, and Society and briefed President George W. Bush on the importance of passing genetic information non-discrimination legislation.

Ms. Fisher currently works as a writer and researcher for the CIA’s Center for the Study of Intelligence and lives with her husband of 25 years in Northern Virginia and New York City.
