Kathryn M. Battuello, JD, MPH

Kathryn M. Battuello, JD, MPH, is a researcher, writer and lecturer on a wide range of ethical, legal and social policy issues relating to clinical integration of genomic-based research. She received her BA with honors from the University of New Mexico, her JD from Duke University School of Law and her MPH from the University of Washington.

Previously, as a member of the faculty at the University of Washington School of Law, Ms. Battuello conducted research and lectured on numerous bioethical issues, including informed consent, family planning and reproductive choice, physician duties to warn family members of genetic results, genetic testing of newborns and children and public health applications for genetic technologies. She also frequently lectured on the legal and policy issues surrounding commercial marketing for genetic tests. While at the University of Washington, Ms. Battuello was a member of the School of Public Health’s Institute for Public Health Genetics.

Throughout her career, Ms. Battuello has been a regular presenter at professional meetings, symposia, continuing legal and medical education seminars and other educational programs on a wide range of legal, medical, bioethical, risk management and policy issues. She recently co-wrote Genetic Technologies and the Law, a textbook for graduate students in law, medicine and public health that prepares them to evaluate and resolve legal, ethical and policy issues related to the use and distribution of genetic technologies, genetic testing and genetic information.
