Pediatric Bioethics Conference CME Information
Seattle Children's is accredited by the Washington State Medical Association CME Accreditation Committee to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. Seattle Children's designates this educational activity for a maximum of 9.25 credits in Category 1 to satisfy the relicensure requirements of the Medical Quality Assurance Commission and the AMA Physicians Recognition Award.
Each physician should claim only those hours for credit that he or she actually spent in the educational activity.
Course Objectives
- List the developmental features that affect adolescent decision-making and the implications this may have for medical decision-making
- Evaluate the factors that are relevant in determining whether and under what circumstances an adolescent should be allowed to refuse life-sustaining medical treatment
- Differentiate and formulate strategies for resolving conflicts between adolescents and their parents with regard to decision-making and confidentiality
- Describe how state laws affect the legal status of adolescent decision-making authority in a medical context
