CME Accreditation 

Seattle Children’s is accredited by the Washington State Medical Association CME Accreditation Committee to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 

Seattle Children’s designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 9.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

This activity meets the criteria for up to 9.50 hours of Category I CME credit to satisfy the relicensure requirements of the Washington State Medical Quality Assurance Commission.

This education course is approved by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Washington State Chapter, for continuing education (CE) credit for social workers licensed in Washington State only.

Course Objectives 

  1. Identify some specific ways in which cultural or religious practices of a family may directly conflict with the standards of Western clinical ethics. 
  2. Identify the conditions under which a parent may refuse an important medical intervention on behalf of a child for religious or cultural reasons. 
  3. Discuss some communication strategies that might enhance a health care provider’s ability to work with families with belief systems that differ from the providers.
