Douglas S. Diekema, MD, MPH

Douglas S. Diekema, MD, MPH, is the director of education for the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics. He is professor in the Division of Bioethics, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine and adjunct professor in the Departments of Bioethics and Humanities and Internal Medicine at the UW School of Medicine and the Department of Health Services in the UW School of Public Health.

He is also attending physician in the Emergency Department at Seattle Children's. He has been a member of the Seattle Children's Hospital Ethics Committee since 1991, has served as an ethics consultant since 1993 and is chairperson of the Institutional Review Board (IRB). He serves as chair of the Committee on Bioethics of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a member of the Ethics Committee of the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Diekema is co-author of Christian Faith, Health, and Medical Practice and the author of numerous scholarly publications in medical ethics and pediatric emergency medicine.
