The Weissman lab is seeking clinical isolates of suspected or confirmed carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) in order to conduct integrated molecular analysis of the phylogenetic virulence and antibiotic resistance-related features of these bacteria, to provide a clearer picture of how these important pathogens are spreading in the United States.
If you have an isolate to submit, please contact Dr. Scott Weissman to discuss. If you have not done so, you may be asked to provide clinical information without patient identifiers about the case through the CaseFinder website.
The analyses described are carried out for research purposes only, and are not intended to inform decision-making for clinical, infection prevention or public health purposes.
Please identify specific concerns you have with regard to the following issues, so that we may resolve these to our mutual satisfaction before specimen submission:
- Human subjects protections
- HIPAA-protected healthcare-related data
- Recognition of contributions for academic purposes
In select cases, we may be able to provide assistance in covering shipping or other costs associated with sample submission. There are no additional costs to the submitting party or organization.
