The laboratory at the Pediatric Clinical Research Center (PCRC), supported by the Center for Clinical and Translational Research (CCTR), processes, packages, stores and ships research specimens for Seattle Children’s clinical research investigators and team members.
Services
The PCRC Lab offers the following services to investigators upon request:
- Specimen retrieval from within and outside the hospital
- Specimen processing and dedicated bench space for after-hours specimen storage
- Pickup is available from the clinical lab via the tube system.
- If pneumatic-tube delivery to the clinical lab would compromise the quality of the specimen, alternative arrangements can be requested in the PCRC Lab Application (DOC).
In addition, the following research equipment is available at the PCRC Lab:
- Refrigerated centrifuge and microcentrifuge, room-temperature centrifuge
- Freezers (-20°C and -80°C) and refrigerator
- Flammable storage
- Liquid nitrogen (requires additional training)
For information on how your specimens can be shipped, see Research Specimen Shipping Options (DOC).
Location and Hours of Operation
The PCRC Lab is located on the main campus of Seattle Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Clinical Research Center on level 8, Ocean zone. PCRC Lab staff are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
If a study requires specimen processing outside of normal lab hours, access can be arranged in advance for study personnel. Before being granted lab access, users must complete the "Bloodborne Pathogens, Safe Handling and Disposal of Infectious Waste" and "Category B Biological Substances Shipping and Transport" training on Learning Center (available through the Seattle Children’s network) and complete an orientation provided by lab staff. Approved staff are provided with badge permission to access the lab.
