Volunteers with Dr. Saelens's research team will have the opportunity to participate in a number of studies related to the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity. A member of the research team will work with the volunteer to find activities that will give them a range of experience and also fit with their goals and current level of experience.
Assignments may include helping prepare for and support group treatment sessions; screening, coding and entering data into existing database systems; assisting with recruitment; collecting environmental and nutritional field data; and office administration. The goal of the position is to provide volunteers with hands-on experience in a research setting with close oversight by an experienced research team.
All activities are carried out in our offices in downtown Seattle at Seattle Children's Research Institute. This is a professional office setting with facilities for computer work, meetings and clinic sessions.
Although research experience is not required to apply to the position, some experience working with computers, survey materials and/or interacting with families is preferred. Both current undergraduates and graduates looking for research experience are eligible to apply.
