Clinical Interests

Areas of strong interest are hospital-based patient safety initiatives. As a provider of anesthetic care in the operative and critical care setting, I feel that continually working towards reducing errors and enhancing patient safety is a vital part of the service we provide to children.

Research Description

My major research interest concerns the influence that genetics have in perioperative medicine. A child's genes can have an important effect on their outcome and response to therapy during surgery or intensive care.

The conditions that involve inflammation, oxidative damage, or ischemia (such as sepsis) seem especially important during this period of intense physiologic stress.

Research Focus Area

Tissue Response to Injury, Genetics and Developmental Biology, Biochemical Genetics
