  • Biography

    Dr. Amanda Jones is the Director of the Science Education Department at Seattle Children's Research Institute. She holds a PhD in microbiology and infectious disease from the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada and completed postdoctoral fellowship training in pediatric infectious disease at the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Hospital. She was an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics from 2002 to 2008 and held adjunct faculty appointments in the Departments of Pathobiology and Global Health.
    She launched the Science Education Department at Seattle Children's Research Institute in 2008. The Department offers a number of programs that are intended to increase access to high-quality, hands-on science education and inspire the next generation of STEM professionals and healthcare leaders. Programs include the Science Adventure Lab, a 45-foot state-of-the-art mobile science lab that travels to elementary and middle schools around the state, career exploration tours and field trips for middle and high school students and a summer STEM internship program for high school seniors that is intended to prepare them for careers in research.
