If it's possible to achieve "rock star" status in endocrinology, Joanie's done it in. Our daughter Carly has been seeing Joanie since 2005 and has always been comfortable when visiting. I'm continually impressed with her demeanor, but more importantly with her awareness of new opportunities for management of Type 1 diabetes. Joanie's firm but compassionate approach to our daughter (now an occasionally surly teenager) is wonderful.

We can't say enough wonderful things about Joanie. She is the whole package when it comes to diabetes care. She is a loving practitioner who makes our 13 year old son feel comfortable and at ease. She understands and communicates to him at his level but also holds him accountable and encourages him to do his best with his care. Joanie spends A LOT of time during each appointment going over trends and troubleshooting issues with us. We know that she truly cares about the health of our son.

Not only did she take time to listen to my concern, but she communicated with my son like no other health care provider. She words the questions in ways that are comfortable, and takes the time to listen to what is being said by words, expressions and gestures. If she isn't sure about anything, she repeats and makes sure everything is clear. If there something she has a question about, she is knowledgeable enough to go to any department to get answers. I recommend her, especially if you are working to transition the care to the child and want your child comfortable talking about their true concerns.
