"I love being around kids: the best part of my day is when I make a connection with your child outside of the condition or injury they came for. I know that it is an important step toward working as a team with your entire family to make you as educated, prepared, and comfortable with the treatment plan as possible."

  • Biography

Dr. Jennifer Bauer grew up in Buffalo, NY before attending Brown University for college. After working as an admission officer there, she returned to school at Case Western Reserve University for a dual medical and Masters of Anatomy degree. She completed her residency at Vanderbilt Medical Center while coaching several youth sports teams. Before joining the staff at Seattle Childrens, she spent a year in pediatric orthopaedic fellowship at Nemours AI duPont Hospital for Children where her time was focused on care of the pediatric spine. Her elective practice is entirely devoted to spine care. Dr. Bauer treats all aspects of the spine in all ages of Seattle Childrens patients, including both common and rare complex problems. She holds several leadership positions at the hospital including Spine Division Leader and Medical Director of the Surgical Unit.

As a member of the University of Washington orthopaedic faculty, she is committed to mentoring medstudents, residents, and fellows to become the next surgeon leaders. She also serves as invited faculty for national and international educational courses. Dr. Bauer continues to dedicate time to orthopaedic research to improve the field of spinal deformity and pediatric fractures, and often presents her work at national and international conferences. She is a committee member of pediatric spine societies and study groups, has earned several traveling fellowships, and is an editor and reviewer for scientific journals. Outside of the hospital she enjoys most water and outdoor activities including wakesurfing, cycling, and skiing.
