Dr. Brauner knows a lot about children, having five of his own ranging in ages from 22 to 41 and with 2 grandchildren. He grew up in California, but definitely is an "Alaskan at heart," liking hunting, fishing and just about anything that takes you out into the great outdoors, including a "successful" ascent of Mt. McKinley in 1981.He received his BS from San Jose State University, a masters from Oregon State University, and his medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa. He then went to New Orleans to do his internship and on to Phoenix for his pediatric residency.

He moved to Anchorage in 1977, where he worked as a pediatrician for the Alaska Native Hospital, and then later as the medical director of the hospital. In 1981 he went to Oregon Health Sciences University to do his two-year pediatric cardiology fellowship. Upon passing the National Pediatric Cardiology Boards in 1983, he returned to Anchorage and opened this practice. He was director of the Providence Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for many years, Pediatric Transport Team director, and Pediatric Burn/Thermal director at various times. He has been on the Providence Hospital board and the mayors Emergency Medicine Advisory Committee over the years, as well as an instructor for PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) classes.
