Hipoglucemia

( Hypoglycemia )

La glucosa (un tipo de azúcar) es la principal fuente de energía del cuerpo. Las hormonas (la insulina y el glucagón, por ejemplo) controlan el nivel de glucosa en la sangre. La hipoglucemia se da cuando el nivel de glucosa en sangre es más bajo de lo que debería ser.

Es un problema común en personas que sufren de diabetes. Los diabéticos pueden sufrir de hipoglucemia (que también se conoce como " baja de azúcar en sangre ") si no se alimentan lo suficiente o si se administran demasiada medicación para bajar la glucosa (insulina, por ejemplo). Una persona con hipoglucemia puede sentir hambre, temblores, sudoración, debilidad, adormecimiento o mareos. Si la hipoglucemia no se controla, puede ocurrir un desmayo.
