Ácidos grasos

( Fatty Acids )

Los ácidos grasos son los componentes básicos de la grasa del cuerpo y de los alimentos que comemos. Durante la digestión, el cuerpo descompone las grasas en ácidos grasos, que luego pueden ser absorbidos por el torrente sanguíneo. Las moléculas de ácidos grasos suelen agruparse de a tres, formando una nueva molécula denominada triglicérido . Los triglicéridos también se forman en nuestro cuerpo a partir de los carbohidratos que ingerimos.

Los ácidos grasos tienen numerosas funciones importantes en el cuerpo, incluido el almacenamiento de energía. Si el cuerpo no dispone de glucosa (un tipo de azúcar) cuando necesita energía, recurre a los ácidos grasos como combustible para las células.
