Células beta

( Beta Cells )

Las células beta producen insulina, una hormona que controla el nivel de glucosa (un tipo de azúcar) en la sangre. Estas células se encuentran en el páncreas, dentro de grupos de células que se denominan "islotes". En la diabetes tipo 1 , el sistema inmunológico del cuerpo destruye, por equivocación, las células beta. Sin ellas, el páncreas no es capaz de generar insulina.
