Factores desencadenantes
(Triggers)

Durante la respiración normal, las vías aéreas que conducen a los pulmones se encuentran totalmente abiertas y permiten el paso del aire hacia el interior y hacia el exterior. En las personas asmáticas, las vías aéreas están inflamadas y son demasiado sensibles a determinados factores que, por lo general, no afectarían a otras personas. Puede tratarse de sustancias, acontecimientos o actividades, y se los denomina "factores desencadenantes" porque "desencadenan" o provocan síntomas de asma, como tos, resuello y falta de aire. Los desencadenantes pueden variar de una persona a otra o de una estación a otra, y es posible que se modifiquen a medida que un niño crece. Algunos factores desencadenantes comunes son los siguientes: alérgenos (sustancias que provocan alergias), infecciones virales, aire frío, ejercicio y humo.
