Espaciador
( Spacer )

Con frecuencia, las personas asmáticas utilizan inhaladores para tomar sus medicamentos. Un espaciador (también denominado "cámara de retención") es un dispositivo que facilita el uso de un inhalador y aumenta su eficacia. Uno de sus extremos se conecta al inhalador y el otro, a una boquilla o una máscara. Cuando el inhalador libera el medicamento en el espaciador, éste queda retenido en el interior de la cámara hasta que es inhalado lentamente a través de la máscara o la boquilla. No es necesario lograr la coordinación que exige el uso de un inhalador. El espaciador también ayuda a liberar la medicación en las vías aéreas - y no en la boca o la garganta-, donde puede actuar mejor y provocar menos efectos secundarios.
