Retracciones
( Retractions )

Las retracciones indican que una persona está realizando un esfuerzo para respirar. La zonas ubicadas debajo de las costillas, entre las costillas y en el cuello se hunden cada vez que se intenta inhalar. Normalmente, cuando uno inspira, el diafragma y los músculos que rodean las costillas crean un vacío que empuja el aire hacia los pulmones (de manera similar a cuando sorbemos un líquido con una pajilla). Pero si una persona tiene dificultades para respirar, otros músculos entran en acción. El uso de estos músculos provoca las retracciones, que se hacen visibles cuando la persona intenta inhalar (tomar aire).
