(Carbohydrate Counting)

Muchas personas que sufren de diabetes recurren al conteo de carbohidratos para calcular la cantidad de carbohidratos en los alimentos que comen. Una porción de carbohidratos equivale a 15 gramos de carbohidratos. Como los carbohidratos son la causa principal del aumento en el nivel de azúcar en sangre que se produce después de comer, los diabéticos pueden contarlos para que la cantidad de insulina que se administran coincida con la cantidad de carbohidratos que han comido. Esta técnica permite lograr un mejor control de los niveles de azúcar en sangre como parte de los cuidados necesarios para manejar la diabetes.
