Dr. Anthony Avellino joined Seattle Children's Hospital in 2003. Dr. Avellino has special expertise in minimally invasive endoscopic neurosurgery, complex spine problems, brain and spinal cord tumors, and management of spasticity. He is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons, American Association of Neurosurgeons and the Society for Research into Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida; he is also active in several Washington state medical organizations. He serves as editorial board member for the journals Pediatric Neurosurgery and Cerebrospinal Fluid Research. His research interests focus on investigations in the pathophysiology of hydrocephalus using proteomic and genomic techniques, identifying biomarkers for the prognosis of cognitive outcome in hydrocephalus, and how complementary and alternative medicine may influence pediatric neurosurgical care. Avellino is widely published and frequently serves as a guest lecturer.

Dr. Richard Ellenbogen joined Seattle Children's Hospital in 1999 and holds the Theodore S. Roberts Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neurosurgery. He is active on many local, regional and national boards and committees and served as the 2005-2006 president of the Congress of Neurological Surgery. Dr. Ellenbogen has been involved with the American Society of Pediatric Neurological Surgery and is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Ellenbogen's clinical practice focuses on pediatric and adult brain tumors, craniofacial anomalies, Chiari malformations, trauma, minimally invasive brain surgery and spine surgery. He serves as director and instructor for the Cerebral Vascular Anastomosis Laboratory of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. His research includes work genetic mutations in brain tumors that cause resistance to chemotherapy, and work with the Nanotechnology Brain Tumor Research Group on imaging brain tumors using nanoparticles. He served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and received the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Reserve Medal. Dr. Ellenbogen has editorial duties on several journals, and he has published three books, including Clinical Neurosurgery and Principles of Neurosurgery, a basic textbook of neurological surgery. He has authored numerous articles, book chapters, and presentations.
