Recreation and Entertainment

Children's isn't like home, but, as much as possible, we want our patients to participate in familiar play and teen activities.

If your child is staying in the hospital, be sure to ask his nurse about special therapeutic play programs that may include pet therapy, music and art therapy, our Clown Care Unit®, and storytelling.

Looking for something fun to do at the hospital? Here's what Children's has to offer:

Bedside Activities

Feel free to come to the Playroom to select toys, books, videos, crafts and games to take to your child's room. Volunteers can bring items to your child's room during Playroom hours.

Complete listing of fun activities in and around Children's (PDF 44KB) (Español).

Children's Park

The Children's Park is outside the hospital Playroom, on the second floor near the Train elevators.

This outdoor play area includes play equipment and benches. Patients and siblings are welcome when with an adult family member or volunteer.

Entertainment Passes

Patients and their families may request passes to the museum, zoo, sporting events and movie theatres through the Child Life Playroom Office. When passes are available, they are given out on a first come, first serve basis.

Please call (206) 987-4433 for more information or stop by the Playroom on the 2nd floor near the Train elevators.

Movies

For families staying in the hospital, G- and PG-rated movies play on channel 18 on the TV in your child's room. Channel 17 broadcasts the lineup of these popular movies and show times. All videos are captioned.

Playroom

Looking for something fun to do? Come to the Playroom! From making origami paper sculptures to visiting with therapy dogs, the Playroom has a range of planned activities and events to interest children of all ages.

Patients and siblings are welcome in the Playroom with an adult family member. Trained volunteers are available to help with activities.

The Playroom features open play times, plus scheduled activities throughout the week. A new Playroom schedule is posted each week at the Playroom, on all inpatient units and at the Family Resource Center.
