Internships

Nursing

Clinical experiences for nursing students are only available via contracted affiliated schools of nursing.

How to Apply

Nursing faculty may contact Nursing Professional Development at (206) 987-4560 if interested in clinical rotations for specific students.

Nurse Technician (paid position)

These positions are for RN students currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing — and in good standing. Registration with WA State Department of Health is required.

Positions will be available periodically throughout the year and will be posted online under Employment Opportunities-Nursing, other than Staff RN.

In addition to WA State requirements, Children's prefers students to have completed their junior year of a BSN program and to have completed a pediatric clinical rotation before applying for a Nurse Tech position.

Business Services (Externship)

We require a high school graduate or equivalent, and you must be currently enrolled in a medical billing program. Externship lasts 6-9 weeks and is unpaid, although you will receive school credit. We have 1 extern per year.

Child Life

An internship under the supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist is necessary to be eligible to take the Child Life Certification Exam. We offer a 15 week/40 hours week (600 hours total) internship experience. We accept one to two interns, two times a year; Winter/Spring and Fall.

Deadlines for applications are:

  • Fall: May 5
  • Winter/Spring: September 5

The following are pre-requisites for applying for the Child Life Internship at CHRMC:

  1. Bachelor's in Child Life or related field or currently working toward a Bachelor's degree (Senior Standing)
  2. Minimum of a 3.0 cummulative GPA
  3. 150 hrs of volunteer work in a hospital setting (working directly with patients and families)
  4. Applicants must have at least 10 college level courses that meet the minimum child life certification requirements (for a list of coursework, please visist the Child Life Council Web site).

Submitted applications must be postmarked by the due date. Candidates that are selected for interviews will be contacted within 4 weeks of their submission. Interviews will be conducted via the phone or in person.

Inpatient Psych Unit

You must be currently enrolled in a program with a university that we have a contract with. This is an unpaid internship, but the student will receive credit. The internship will last one quarter/semester. We accept 5-6 interns per quarter.

Pharmacy Internship

You must be admitted to the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. Technician experience is a plus. This is a paid internship – you work 16 hours per pay period (every other weekend) during the school year, and then close to full-time during the summer.

The duration of the internship can be 1-4 years. We usually hire 3 pharmacy interns per year. Interns usually start employment and complete most of their training during the summer.

Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency

The Postgraduate Year One Pharmacy Residency at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center is a one-year training program that offers an environment to gain professional competence, expand clinical knowledge, and develop a philosophy of pharmacy practice.

Why Should I do a residency?

Applications are being accepted for the July 2008 - June 2009 residency program year. Selected applicants will be required to visit Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center for an on-site interview in January or February 2008.

Physical Therapy

Please note that there is a 3-year waiting list for physical therapy internships at Children's. There are only a few slots designated to each school.

Requirements

  • You must be in a physical therapy program at a University with which we have a contract
  • Requests must go through the Physical Therapy department at Children's and through the fieldwork coordinator at your university
  • If we do not have a contract with your school, you must talk to your fieldwork-internship coordinator to set one up with Children's

Social Work

We have a Master's level and occasional Bachelor's level social work interns. We accept approximately 6-10 interns per year. These are unpaid internships. The duration of the internship is approximately 8 months.

Requirements

You must be working towards a degree in Social Work, and in a CSWE accredited SW degree program.

Schools

University of Washington School of Social Work, but will consider requests from other CSWE programs.
