Children's Hospital was created in response to a need.
After losing her young son to inflammatory rheumatism, Anna Clise galvanized 23 female friends and, in 1907, established the first facility west of the Mississippi to specialize in treating children.
One hundred years later, her legacy directs us still: We believe all children should grow up without illness or injury.
Treatments are now available that Anna Clise could never have imagined. But much more remains to be done.
Our desire to provide the best possible care to our patients — to prevent, treat and ultimately eliminate pediatric disease — drives everything we do, and is the rationale for our ambitious growth and research agendas.
The strategic plan that follows provides a road map for integrating the growth of our clinical, research and educational programs over the next five years. It is the result of intensive collaboration among the Children's board, administrators, physicians, partners and staff.
The launching point is our vision to be the best children's hospital — because our patients deserve nothing less. Through a strategic planning process we developed an institutional consensus about what it means to be the best, and defined six clear and compelling strategic themes.
Each theme is supported by a set of initiatives that will enable us to achieve our vision while maintaining the solid financial principles that have characterized Children's first 100 years. We are committed to offering the best care possible to all children.
Our strategic plan envisions a future where:
We will use targeted fundraising and Continuous Performance Improvement methodology to ensure that we maintain Children's strong operational and financial performance while we implement the strategic plan.
In July 2006, the full hospital board approved and endorsed the strategic plan that will lay the foundation for the next century.
