Child Magazine Names Children's One of Nation's Top Children's Hospitals

January 4, 2007

Child Magazine today placed Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center amongst the nation’s top children’s hospitals for the fourth consecutive time. Children’s oncology program also received special recognition as one of the best in the country.

The results were announced as part of the magazine’s bi-annual survey to identify the nation’s “Best Children’s Hospitals.”

The results of the comprehensive survey will appear in the magazine’s February 2007 issue on newsstands nationwide January 9.

The survey calculated results according to criteria including survival rates, the number of complex procedures and intricate surgeries conducted, volume of research studies, efforts to reduce medical errors, and the quality and training of the doctors and nurses — as well as child-friendliness, support for families, and community involvement.

Children’s placed fifteenth overall among all U.S. children’s hospitals. Children’s oncology program was ranked ninth in the nation.

“This is well-deserved recognition as we embark on our 100th year providing excellent, family-centered medical care to children in our region and beyond,” said Dr. Thomas Hansen, president and CEO at Children’s.

“We have bold plans to build on our strong foundation to increase the quality of patient care, improve outcomes and investigate new treatments — all in an effort to eliminate pediatric disease in children.”

Child Magazine’s research team sent a comprehensive 247-question survey to 116 member hospitals of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions. Seventy-six hospitals completed the survey. Child’s medical advisory board then reviewed and evaluated the survey results.

Details about the final rankings may be found at Child.com.
