The Pediatric Care Center at the UW Roosevelt Clinic offers an opportunity to experience a continuity clinic in a practice resembling that found in most urban settings. The center serves as a site for faculty practice and resident continuity clinics.

Clinic patients are ethnically and culturally diverse and represent a varied socio-economic spectrum, ranging from low-income families to children of University faculty and staff. Patients are commonly recruited from the newborn nursery at the UW Medical Center, giving residents a chance to develop a relationship with families starting at birth.

Because of the close relationship with Seattle Children's Hospital, there are a number of children and adolescents with chronic conditions who have residents at Roosevelt as their primary care doctors.

Preceptors for continuity clinic at the Pediatric Care Center are faculty and fellows from the Division of General Pediatrics. The attending staff is dedicated to providing comprehensive care to patients and their families.

In working with residents, strong emphasis is placed on patient-physician communication skills and developmental behavioral pediatrics.

A concerted effort is being made at the Pediatric Care Center to utilize the latest in medical information systems.

Dictated notes are available on-line, as is specific growth, immunization and pharmacy information on each child. Patient-specific information is generated at each visit, and patient education materials are also on-line.

Computerized lists of resident panels are maintained to assure a balanced experience of common acute illnesses and chronic childhood conditions.
