Seattle Children's Fellows' College

|

Overview

The Fellows' College offers a core educational curriculum and career development services for postgraduate fellows in all pediatric medical and surgical programs at Seattle Children’s.

Goals

The objectives of the Fellows' College are to:

  • Fulfill curricular requirements of the American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and specialty board organizations through rigorous, innovative and efficient courses, workshops and program support
  • Train future faculty ideally suited to lead the NIH Roadmap Research Teams of the Future by providing an environment that fosters critical cross-fertilization between fellows training in bench, clinical, and health services research
  • Provide career development and placement services so that graduating fellows achieve optimal career placements

Educational Workshops

Workshops cover key aspects of training in academic medicine and research, complementing offerings provided within individual training programs and at the University of Washington Schools of Medicine and Public Health. Participation in the workshops also provides fellows with an opportunity to network with fellows and faculty throughout the hospital. View the courses.

Fellows' Research Day

Each spring, the Fellows' College hosts the annual Fellows' Research Day, showcasing the high quality and diverse research conducted by fellows at Seattle Children’s. The day begins with a lecture by an invited keynote speaker, typically a chair of pediatrics at a peer institution. Fellows have the opportunity to submit abstracts for peer review and to present their research in oral or poster format. Senior fellows are expected to submit at least one abstract during their fellowship training. Learn more (PDF).

Career Development and Placement Services

Basic information on career planning, academic tracks and the process of searching for an academic position is provided in the "Launching a Successful Career" workshop. Additionally, as fellows begin to transition to academic careers, the directors of the Fellows' College and other faculty members are available to advise them, with the goal of achieving optimal career placements.
