Children’s Medical Staff member Dr. Maxine Hayes was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine (IOM), part of the National Academy for the Sciences.
Based on professional achievement and commitment to service, appointment to the IOM is one of the highest honors in the fields of medical sciences, health care and public health.
A former medical director of the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, Dr. Hayes is currently the state health officer for the Washington State Department of Health. In that role, she advises Washington’s governor on public health issues.
Dr. Hayes is also a clinical professor of pediatrics and health services at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
As a member of the IOM, Dr. Hayes will participate in studies carried out by the institute, which advises policy makers, leaders and the public on important health issues in the United States.
