The Certificate Program in Medical Management is designed to provide physicians and other health care professionals the skills they need to succeed in management and leadership roles. The program offers four three-credit courses, each of which focuses on a key aspect of management: Strategy and Business Development, Quality Measurement and Management, Leadership and Change Management, and Financial Management. Each course is taught by faculty experienced in the field of practice with a strong emphasis on practical application of the concepts and tools in health care organizations.
Focuses on the development and implementation of strategy and business development plans that enable organizations to adapt successfully to the changing health care marketplace. The course stresses practical approaches to articulate an organization’s mission and vision and formulate strategies and business plans that fit the external and internal situation.
Provides the knowledge and skills needed to manage the delivery of high value care. The course is especially aimed at clinicians interested in leading their peers in the definition, measurement, and management of quality improvement. Safety and patient satisfaction are also stressed.
Examines practical approaches for motivating and leading people, building teamwork, dealing with conflict, and managing change.
Provides key financial concepts and tools needed to develop and manage budgets and to understand how health care organizations acquire and allocate capital and operating resources.
Classes are offered Wednesday evenings, 5:30 – 8:30 PM. Each course runs 10 weeks. The fall term course, Medical Practice Quality Measurement and Management starts September 28. Up to 30 continuing medical or nursing education credit hours can be awarded for each course with a potential maximum of 120 hours for the full program.
The application deadline for autumn admission to the program is August 20th. Applications received after this date will be reviewed on a space available basis.
