The Bulletin is a monthly newsletter for Children's and community providers.
In conjunction with The Campaign for Children’s — the largest comprehensive fundraising initiative the hospital has ever undertaken — Children’s has launched the Children’s Story Project, a Web-based living archive of the hospital in the words and voices of the people whose lives have been touched by Children’s.
As a provider who entrusts your patients to Children’s, you have a unique perspective.
Please take a few minutes to share a story — be it inspirational, funny or otherwise meaningful. You can also submit stories by letter, voice-mail recording, or live on-site interview.
For more information, call Mirtha Vaca-Wilkens at (206) 987-4996.
Do you need copies of Children’s publications for your office?
Now health professionals can download a Health Care Provider Materials Request Form for some of our most frequently requested printed materials — including Children’s Physicians Directory, Directory of Services, Starting Point Community Resource Guide and our Parent’s Water Safety Guide — by clicking on the Resources tab.
Fax the completed form or send it as an attachment to an e-mail, and we will send you the requested items. If you prefer, you can still order materials by calling (206) 987-2500 and selecting option 4.
The Craniofacial Center is hosting a series of talks by Emily Lovegrove, PhD, a psychologist and researcher at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
Physicians and families are invited to attend Dr. Lovegrove’s Grand Rounds on April 20: “Ignoring Bullies Doesn’t Make Them Go Away…Children, Appearance and Bullying.” Dr. Lovegrove will also participate in a roundtable for parents, a workshop for teenagers and a training session for Children’s staff.
For information or to register, contact Monica Andrews, MSS, LICSW, in the Craniofacial Center, at (206) 987-3159.
Professionals who visit Children’s in the course of their work — including lawyers, architects, clergy, community physicians and other medical professionals — are now required to wear badges that identify them as “visiting professionals” when they are on campus.
The new ID badges are similar to the ones parents and vendors are required to wear; they allow the Security Services team to identify people who have a legitimate reason to be on campus.
The badges are available at the medical and hospital administration offices, all unit coordinator desks, the Security Services office, the nursing staff office, the Surgical Unit and other locations.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our campus safe. For more information, contact Security Services at (206) 987-2030.
Starting May 8, Children’s faculty will use the Physician Operator to reach referring physicians to discuss patient care. This change is part of our continuous effort to improve and expedite communication between faculty and community physicians.
If you are a referring physician, we are asking you to prepare your staff so that when one of our physicians calls, you can be available to take the call; this will help us avoid phone tag. The operators will let your staff know if the call is urgent.
If your practice has a phone tree, please ensure that it has a physician-to-physician option (preferably as the first option) to facilitate these calls.
Look for a letter from us in the next few weeks with more information about outgoing Physician Operator calls.
Accountability, Respect, Teamwork (ART): These are the key elements of Children’s new Standards for Service Quality.
The Service Standards are designed to ensure excellent and consistent customer service for every person who walks through our doors.
Our Service Standards provide clear guidelines on how Children’s employees — whether they interact directly with patients or support those who do — are expected to treat patients, their families, and everyone else they come in contact with in their daily work.
All Children’s staff members will have comprehensive training to incorporate these standards into their daily interactions, and the standards will be part of every employee’s annual performance evaluation.
We developed the standards in response to our Family Experience Survey and feedback from others, including faculty and community physicians. They reflect our continuing commitment to create a family-centered care environment that respects the diversity of our patients, families and staff, and exemplifies the best service.
