The Bulletin: October 2005

The Bulletin is a monthly newsletter for Children's and community providers.

"Top Docs"

Congratulations to the members of Children’s medical staff listed among Seattle’s “Top Doctors,” according to a survey conducted by Seattle Magazine.

The physicians were selected through a confidential survey sent to a randomized list of physicians and complementary health care providers in King County and portions of Snohomish and Pierce counties.

The survey asked them to name the provider they would recommend in 56 different specialty areas and three areas of complementary medicine, regardless of their hospital, clinic or health-plan affiliation. The names recommended most frequently were included on the final list.

The article also highlights Dr. Linda Quan, medical staff president, as an international expert in the field of drowning prevention.

Hopper Appointed Surgical Director of Craniofacial Center

Dr. Richard Hopper from the division of Craniofacial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has been appointed surgical director of the Children’s Craniofacial Center.

Dr. Hopper will work with Dr. Michael Cunningham, the center’s medical director, to continue to develop this interdisciplinary team into the finest program of its kind.

This new position emphasizes the close interaction between the Departments of Pediatrics and Surgical Services that has brought such success to the Craniofacial Center to date.

Child Safety and CPR Classes

Worried about that toddler with a seizure disorder? Concerned for the safety of the impulsive school-age child with ADHD?

Children’s provides your patient families with two excellent resources for infant CPR and child safety training. Children’s nurses provide free, weekly CPR and infant and child safety classes for inpatient families.

Families can register for classes in English by calling the registration message line at (206) 987-5019 or for the Spanish-language CPR class by calling (206) 987-1001.

Infant and child CPR classes for families in the community are taught monthly by nurses or medics and are cosponsored by Great Starts Birth & Family Education.

Call (206) 789-2306 to register. Cost is $35 per person.
