Research Title: Senior Clinical Research Scientist

Research Center: Center for Clinical and Translational Research

"As a research health psychologist, I am interested in understanding more about what predicts successful outcomes in youth with chronic disease. I find it inspiring to hear about patients who rise above daily struggles and succeed in academics, activities and social relationships. Thus, my work explores the personal resources that define 'resilience' in those who successfully manage the hardships of growing up with chronic or serious illnesses and thrive. My colleagues and I have developed an intervention designed to bolster resilience in adolescents facing chronic/serious illness and their parents."

  • Biography

Dr. Joyce Yi-Frazier is a senior clinical research scientist in the Center for Clinical and Translational Research at Seattle Childrens Research Institute. She completed her PhD in health psychology from the University of Washington and obtained her bachelors degree from Cornell University.

Yi-Frazier has a long history of research in stress and resilience in association with chronic/serious illness. Interested in the interplay between resilience to stress and health outcomes, she was one of the first to publish on resilience in the diabetes population, and has also studied resilience in relation to stress in caregivers, elite athletes and obese youth. Her partnership with Rosenberg has developed into a fully-tested and developed intervention (PRISM), and she has co-led many projects with Rosenberg and other collaborators disseminating PRISM in oncology, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and end-stage renal disease participants.
