Clinic and Follow-up Visits After Liver Transplantation
During the first year after the transplantation, you will need to bring your child to the Liver and Intestine Transplant Clinic frequently for lab and clinic visits.
A typical schedule of post-transplant clinic visits might be:
| After Surgery | Number of Clinic Visits | Number of Labs |
|---|
| Month 1 | Once to twice a week | One to two times a week |
| Months 2 and 3 | | Every two to four weeks |
| Months 4 through 6 | Once a month | Once a month |
| Months 7 through 12 | | Once a month |
| Year 2 and on | Once a year | Every three months |
This is a general guideline. Your child’s schedule and follow-up visits and labs will depend on how she is doing, her liver function and whether he has developed any additional problems after transplant.
If your child is having complications, visits may be more frequent.
Also, please remember:
- We must be able to contact you at any time. We need to have current work and home numbers.
- Your child will need lifelong medical and transplant follow-up — throughout childhood and into adulthood — to ensure that she has the best liver function and to evaluate for any transplant-related problems that may occur
- Your child’s transplant nurse coordinator or transplant nurse practitioner will act as your contact for any problems or questions
