Your child’s evaluation is planned for their specific needs and concerns. Before your child's visit, we need to review your child’s school, medical and therapy records (if any). When you make the appointment, we will ask you to help us get these records to determine which specialist would be best to see your child.
At your child’s visit, you will have a chance to ask questions. We suggest making a list of questions before the visit and bringing this with you.
Plan to spend 1½ to 2½ hours at your child’s speech and language evaluation and up to 4 hours for an autism or Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) evaluation.
If your child is having a swallowing evaluation, do not give your child anything to eat or drink for 2 hours before your visit. This will help ensure that your child is hungry.
If your child is having an AAC evaluation, bring your child’s current communication system. If your child typically sits in a wheelchair, bring your child to the visit in that chair.
After your child’s evaluation, we will share our test results, observations and recommendations with you before you leave. You will have a chance to ask questions. You are also welcome to call us after you leave if new questions come up.
