We see children born with certain genetic changes (mutations) including:
- 16p11.2 deletion/duplication
- Certain types of changes to the following genes:
Children with these genetic changes may have autism spectrum disorder; speech and language disorders; intellectual disabilities; physical differences; seizures; gastrointestinal problems; or sleep concerns. We provide a short-term consultation service, usually 3 to 4 appointments in a single day, to help address concerns related to your child’s genetic change. Your child will be seen by experts in psychology; speech and language; and pediatrics.
Based on your child’s needs, we may help set up appointments with other providers such as a neurologist, sleep medicine doctor or gastroenterologist. We may recommend further evaluation for your child through an outside agency, like a school or local medical center. Since we are a consultation clinic, we do not provide ongoing care or treatment.
Before your child’s visit, we will collect some information about your concerns over the phone as well as records to review to be sure that RARE is a good fit for your family. Records might include medical records such as genetic testing results and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
