Seattle Children’s is committed to protecting youth from firearm tragedies and will work to reduce youth access to firearms to prevent suicide, injury and unintentional death by firearm. We aim to do this by:

  • Increasing access to and proper use of safe firearm storage devices through our community safe firearm storage giveaway events and internal distribution efforts at our different sites of care
  • Raising awareness through various outreach activities to families; caregivers; community organizations; firearm retailers; mental and healthcare providers; and others on the importance and effectiveness of safe firearm storage
  • Serving as a community resource in support of firearm tragedy prevention including violence and suicide prevention efforts around the state and region
  • Participating in and working to identify evidence-based interventions and strategies to help inform and prevent firearm tragedies
