The Tom Warren Award recognizes both lifetime achievement and innovation in the context of drowning prevention and water safety work. Recipients receive an individual plaque, provided by "Friends of Tom," and name plates are included on the perpetual award plaque.
Nominations are due March 1, 2016. Award winners will be announced at the spring meeting of the Washington Drowning Prevention Network.
This award recognizes an individual who has made major contributions to drowning prevention and water safety over several years. It may be awarded to an aquatics professional or to someone outside the aquatics industry who has been involved with drowning prevention efforts personally or professionally.

This award recognizes a program, organization or individual that has taken an innovative approach to water safety and drowning prevention.
Tom Warren, 1938–2011
Tom Warren was a founding member of the Washington State Drowning Prevention Network in the early 1990s. He began his aquatics career in the 1950s as a beach lifeguard and manager for Seattle's parks department. He was an avid swimmer, and continued working in aquatics throughout his career, eventually becoming an aquatics supervisor for the King County Parks and Recreation Division from 1988 to 2002.
Warren made major contributions to water safety in Washington state throughout his life, including involvement in the April Pool's Day program and the life jacket loaner program. He continued his involvement with the water safety community after his retirement as a member of the Washington State Governors Commission. This award has been established to honor major contributions to water safety in the memory of this dedicated aquatics professional who helped to establish and innovate water safety programs and policies in Washington state.
