In this 60-minute class, adult participants will engage in the following activities under the guidance of the instructor, with the support of caregivers or aides as needed.
- Instruments: playing autoharp, xylophone, drums and percussion instruments
- Movement and props: using stretch rope, parachute, wands, scarves, hoops and ribbons
- Schedule: using visual schedules, pictures and icons to help facilitate communication
- Group involvement: cooperation is fostered throughout class by manipulating props, listening and taking turns and choosing and changing partners, all highly structured for success with song-based prompts and supports.
This class is intended for adults age 18 and older with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities. Participants who require a 1:1 aide or caregiver are required to bring this person with them to class.
