CPR for Babysitters

CPR for Babysitters

CPR for Babysitters is a three-hour American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Basic Life Support Course taught by professional instructors credentialed by the American Heart Association. The class is held through the combined efforts of Seattle Children's and the Great Starts Program of Parent Trust for Washington Children.

This safety class is a designed for babysitters age 11 to 15 years who have already completed a babysitting course.

Topics include infant and child CPR for infants and children up to age 8. It teaches how to deal with a child who is not breathing or choking, or whose heart has stopped beating. Participants receive an American Heart Association Basic Life Support certificate that is valid for two years. CPR for Babysitters is co-sponsored by Great Starts Birth and Family Education.

Each registration is good for one child because this is a certification course. Parents must register siblings separately.

Please call Registration at 206-789-2306 with additional questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

I want to sign up another child, who is not a member of our family, in addition to my own. Can I do that?

It is not possible to sign up a child who is not part of your family. Each family must sign up their own child for the class. Adult consent is required when registering, and you can only grant consent for your child.

Also, the registration system assigns each family an account. If you choose to take another class in the future, your registration will fall under your family's account.

I want to sign up a whole group of students (like a Girl Scout troop). How do I do that?

Each family must register individually. To determine how many spaces remain in any given class, call the Great Starts program registration line at 206-789-2306.

You can receive a $5 discount on CPR for Babysitters if you have registered for, or taken the Better Babysitters class.

If registering online, check the box labeled "Multiple Program Discount." The registration system will adjust your balance due accordingly.

If registering over the phone simply inform the registrar that you have taken or signed up for Better Babysitters.

What happens if I arrive late to class?

If you arrive late to class, we will not be able to admit you because the American Heart Association guidelines will not allow us to provide certification to anyone who is not at class for the entire session. You can reschedule for a future class date for a $10 administrative fee by calling Great Starts of Parent Trust for Washington Children at 206-789-2306 within ten days of your original class date.
