Autism 101 covers the basics of autism and is offered several times a year. It is for people who either know little about autism, or are dealing with a new diagnosis. There is always a question and answer time at the end of the presentation.
Each class in the Autism 200 series covers different information and specific issues relating to the care of children with autism. Classes are taught by rotating faculty members from Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington, along with professionals from the community. There is always a question and answer time at the end of the presentation.
The autism classes are designed for parent, teachers and caregivers. The topics associated with the majority of classes are applicable to all age ranges and for a wide variety of children diagnosed with autism. There are a few classes that are geared toward more specific groups, for example, the Autism 200 series offers a Beginning Communicators class and an Advanced Communicators class. It is helpful to look at the subject title to determine whether or not the class applies to your situation.
The autism classes are designed for parent, teachers and caregivers. Children are strongly encouraged not to attend given the nature and format of the topics and the discussion. The autism classes give parents and caregivers practical skills when interacting with children with autism.
The $10 fee covers one family per class session. Each class session requires a separate registration. The Autism 101 class is $10, and the Autism 200 series is $10 per session.
