We want to provide every child we treat with the possibility of a better future. It is a promise we made nearly a century ago, and one we are committed to keeping — even as our region continues to grow.
That’s why we built the Melinda French Gates Ambulatory Care Building: to make sure all families in our region can quickly and easily see some of the nation’s top pediatric specialists in an environment with the latest medical technology.
To those of you who have supported our vision to expand alongside our growing region, we thank you.
To our patients and their families, we are grateful that you put your trust in us. Welcome to our new, state-of-the-art building — our doors are always open to you.
The Vision Belongs to All of Us
When Seattleite Anna Clise asked 23 of her friends to help open a small hospital dedicated to the care of children, 13 patients received treatment in 1907. Almost 100 years later in 2005, this number has grown to more than 215,000 annual visits.
Children’s is committed to supporting Anna Clise’s vision now and into the future. And so is Melinda French Gates, an incredible friend and advocate of Seattle Children’s. Her leadership helps ensure that we continue our mission to prevent, treat and eliminate pediatric disease.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is dedicated to closing gaps in health care and improving the lives of families in the Pacific Northwest, goals that dovetail with Children’s own mission. We are fortunate to have the Gates Foundation and family as partners, embracing and generously supporting our work to deliver the best and most innovative medical care to every child, regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
“We support Children’s so we can join in the thrill of scientific discovery, but it goes deeper than that,” says Melinda. “We want to create for mothers and fathers and grandparents the miraculous experience of seeing their sick child made well. This vision belongs to all of us, and so will the joy of achieving it.”
