Statement on Pat Hagan’s Departure: From Thomas Hansen, MD, CEO at Seattle Children’s

January 12, 2012

After over 15 years of service at Seattle Children’s, Pat Hagan has decided to resign from his position as president and chief operating officer of the hospital. His last day will be January 31.

Effective February 1, Lisa Brandenburg will assume the duties of interim president and chief operating officer, which she will perform in addition to her current responsibilities as chief administrative officer. Since joining Children’s five years ago, Lisa has been very involved in all aspects of the hospital including patient care, physician practice management, our Building Hope expansion, transportation initiatives, human resources, and supply chain management.

Lisa’s 21 year experience leading complex service organizations, including the University of Washington Medical Center; her commitment to providing Children’s patients and their families with the best in patient care; her enthusiasm for our mission and future; and the confidence she has earned with the executive team, make her the perfect candidate for this role.

Pat joined Children’s in 1996, and over the years has remained devoted to our mission and vision. He has worked tirelessly to improve quality and safety for patients, families and staff.

With Pat’s strong leadership, Children’s has benefitted from the Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI) philosophy and improvement approach in countless ways, of note, using the principles to remain fiscally strong during challenging economic times. Pat will leave Children’s to serve as a CPI consultant, helping other organizations realize the power of CPI philosophy and its tools.

Although we are saddened by Pat’s departure, we are proud of how much we have grown and how far we have come during his tenure. We are also optimistic about the future of Children’s. We will continue to be guided by our commitment to CPI principles. In addition, we will look to our strategic plan to direct Children’s work over the next five years.
