One Big KISS for Seattle Children’s Hospital Radiothon Raises $881,720
Morning show host Bender brought the stories of Children’s patients, families, staff and volunteers to their listeners across the region
106.1 KISS FM (KBKS), a Clear Channel Radio station, raised more than $881,000 for Seattle Children’s Hospital during its 13th annual “Jackie and Bender’s One Big KISS for Seattle Children’s Hospital Radiothon” which took place December 17. This was the second Radiothon event the radio station hosted this year bringing their 2013 grand total to over $1.88 Million.
Morning show host Bender brought the stories of Children’s patients, families, staff and volunteers to their listeners across the region, who responded with generous donations.
“It’s truly incredible that Jackie and Bender inspire so many to give generously, especially during the holidays,” said Michele Smith, member, Seattle Children’s Hospital Board of Trustees. “They have given a voice to so many patients and their families to share their amazing stories with our community uniting everyone in supporting Seattle Children’s. In 15 hours, KISS listeners donated the same amount raised after their second annual 4-day effort. We can’t thank you enough!”
Funds raised through Radiothon will be used for the Children’s Greatest Needs Fund, allowing the hospital the flexibility to fund projects and programs that advance its mission to prevent, treat and eliminate pediatric disease. Children’s is an important part of the safety net for the region’s children, and with the generous support from community members the hospital is able to deliver on its mission.
“ $881,720 in a little over 14 hours? KISS-FM has the greatest listening audience in the world,” said Bender, 106.1 KISS FM Morning Show host. “As a community, we were able to raise an incredible amount of money just a week before Christmas. A true Christmas miracle if there ever was one. Seattle Children’s Hospital is, as Phil Smart used to refer to it, a blessed miracle house. He would have been so proud. Thank you to EVERYONE who donated. It means more to me than you could possibly imagine. Merry Bendermas!!”
Photos from the event are posted to www.KISSFMSEATTLE.com and online donations are still being accepted on the event webpage. Listeners can also text in a $10 donation by texting the word CARE to 50555.
Jackie and Bender’s One Big KISS for Seattle Children’s Hospital Radiothon is co-presented by the John L. Scott Foundation and powered by CenturyLink. The John L. Scott Foundation is funded by the volunteer donations and efforts of John L. Scott sales associates and employees. The Foundation contributes to 18 children’s hospitals throughout the Pacific Northwest.
