Man’s secret $187M fortune goes to 3 Seattle institutions

A frugal Seattle attorney who nurtured a secret fortune for more than 40 years before passing away in September has bequeathed Seattle Children’s Research Institute the largest charitable gift in the hospital’s 106-year history. It is the largest philanthropic gift in Washington state this year, and the sixth largest in the country in 2013.
